Today, I posed a question to my students—whether did they know my country of origin? Despite being aware of my education, profession, background, and Irish residence, they were unaware of my motherland. Their guess was India though my accent sounded nothing like it, which made me chuckle. They were both surprised and confused when I revealed that I was from Sri Lanka. But let me tell you, we Sri Lankans are a smart bunch (except for the politicians and their partisans, lol). It was a fun and enlightening moment for me, reminding the beauty of cultural exchange and learning.
Well, now what?
